Sample Letter to California Friends
Dear
I am a member of Concerned Women for America, and have been made aware of just how important it is that the amendment on the ballot in California this November that defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman must pass.
I can't vote there as you know, but I want to urge you to vote on this issue that affects the entire nation! We have one final chance to overcome the ruling by a handful of liberal judges to allow same-sex "marriage."
If we don't, this ruling will affect every state in the union.
This ruling allows people from all states to come to California and marry. Homosexual couples will demand that other states then recognize that "marriage" as legal — regardless of whether or not same-sex "marriage" is lawful in their state!
So what would this mean to your everyday life? Christians and others who do not agree with same-sex "marriage" will face lawsuits and charges of discrimination.
There are so many examples, but here are two for you to consider: - In Massachusetts, Catholic Charities refused to place children in the homes of same-sex couples and it became a battle in the state legislature. They lost. As a result, the ministry decided to stop offering adoption services, a terrible loss for couples and babies across the Commonwealth.
- A same-sex couple in New Mexico asked a photographer to shoot their "commitment ceremony." The photographer — a dedicated Christian named Elaine Huguenin — declined, stating it violated her personal religious beliefs. The couple sued and the photographer was found guilty of discrimination and ordered to pay the lesbian couple's legal fees of $6,000. It is now under appeal.
These are just two of the stories that the left-leaning National Public Radio chronicled in an article called "Gay Rights, Religious Liberties: A Three-Act Story" by Barbara Bradley Hagerty.
It began: "As gay couples in California head to the courthouse …to get legally married, there are signs of a coming storm. Two titanic legal principles are crashing on the steps of the church, synagogue and mosque: equal treatment for same-sex couples on one hand and the freedom to exercise religious beliefs on the other."
But here is what is really frightening:
"As states have legalized same-sex partnerships, the rights of gay couples have consistently trumped the rights of religious groups."
We must do everything in our power to fight this surge of judicial power that is taking decisions away from the people. We must do everything in our power to rally Christians all over California to vote.
PLEASE VOTE ON ELECTION DAY — If you are not yet registered, go to www.sos.ca.gov/elections for information. Vote to protect traditional marriage once and for all in California. A recent poll shows that 51% of voters oppose the amendment. We need you there!
PRAY — This election season is one of the most critical I can ever remember. Our nation is under attack from so many angles, including same-sex "marriage." This is a time when we must be serious about getting before the face of God, to fast and to pray for America. Will you do that?
JOIN ME IN MY SUPPORT OF CWA — Will you help us? Will you give a gift today that will allow us to fight the good fight in California to protect the rest of our country from this insanity? You can make a donation on-line at www.cwalac.org/CAgift.
Your friend,
